Today was our 2nd handstand class held in the School of Exceptional Arts which is situated inside Matter Wholefoods Store in Easton, Bristol, United Kingdom.
The class is lead by Richard Casemore who is one half of the acrobatic duo – DuoSu. His parter Rachel Fox is currently on an intensive hand balancing course at a circus school in Sweden and when she returns at the end of September 2015 she will join Richard in teaching the classes.
The class was well attended, we had local AcroYoga star – Ash Bond – of Flying Monkey Yoga. Was also had Hannah Nichols the owner of Pink Kitten Pole Dance school, and Janine Mahon a Circomedia aerial teacher and Arcadia Spectacular Performer, and Lucy from Circus Uncertainty, and last but not least myself Ben Lowrey! (most celebrated tent erector and hen party entertainer in the northern hemisphere)! I was assisting Richard with the class.
Richard’s teaching style is very thorough, we did plenty of warming up, stretching, and conditioning relevant to good handstand form.
We then worked in partners to do various handstand practise whilst spotting each other. This including leg shapes such as straddle, lever ups, and tuck.
It was a 90-minute class which was a perfect amount of time to warm up, condition, and get plenty of handstand practise.
We even had a 10 year old who also did very well amongst the adults.
